Mechanism of action:
Ciprofloxacin is a bactericidal compound that inhibits DNA replication, translation, and repair in susceptible bacteria by inhibiting DNA gyrase.

Indications:
Ciprofloxacin is prescribed to treat the following bacterial infections:
Respiratory infections
Chronic and recurrent ear and sinus infection
Urinary tract infections
Female and male reproductive tract infections
Gastrointestinal and intra-abdominal infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Bone and joint infections
Prevention of meningitis caused by Neisseriameningitidis                                                                                                            
Dosage and administration:
Doctors decide the dosage to be takendepending on the disease type, but the common dose in adults is one tablet every 12 hours for 7-14 days. This dose can be changed for different diseases, or treatment time can be prolonged.
To prevent microbial resistance and ensure the definitive treatment of the infection, take the medication as ordered by the doctor and on time. To prevent side effects, drink 1-2 glasses of water with each tablet.
Consumption of milk, dairy products, and supplements containing calcium, magnesium, and iron together with this medication reduces its efficacy. Therefore, take ciprofloxacin at least two hours before or six hours after consuming these items.
Side effects:
Like other medications, ciprofloxacin may cause adverseeffects, although not everybody shows all the side effects.
nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache are among the side effects.
If any of these symptoms emerge, stop taking the medication and contact your doctor:
Muscle pain and weakness with joint inflammation and pain, increased muscle tone and cramps, tendon inflammation or tear (especially of the Achilles tendon). In the case of this side effect, stop taking ciprofloxacin, keep the injured limb immobilized, and visit your doctor immediately.
Abnormal  muscle pain and burning or numbness and tingling in muscles or  extremities of the body that indicate nerve damage.
Infection with symptoms such as fever and a sudden feeling of discomfort called malaise, which may indicate a low white blood cell count.
Severe allergic reactions with skin rashes or dyspnea
Hepatic problems such as the yellow eyes and skinrarely happen.
Psychiatric disorders (psychotic reactions, depression, suicidal ideation), hallucination
Colitis causing severe diarrhea with blood or mucus in the feces
Blood or crystals in the urine or decreased urine output
Contraindications:
A history of allergy to ciprofloxacin or other antibiotics of this class
Concomitant administration with Tizanidine is contraindicated.
This medication is not recommended in pregnancy. It can be used during pregnancy only if prescribed by physician and if the benefits outweigh the possible adverse effects on the fetus.
Ciprofloxacin is not recommended during lactation because it is secreted in milk and may harm the infant. If you have to use ciprofloxacin, stop lactating when taking this medication.
If you use any medication or supplement, tell your doctor before taking ciprofloxacin.
This medication makes you more sensitive to sunlight. It is better to limit exposure to sunlight and use sunblocks if you are outdoors.
