Drug class: Antibiotic
Dosage form: Capsule
Ingredients: Each capsule contains 500 mg  amoxicillin.
Mechanism of action: Amoxicillin prevents bacterial cell wall formation thereby killing the growing and dividing bacteria.
Indications:
Amoxicillin is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including ear, nose, throat, reproductive tract, skin, and respiratory infections.
Dosage and administration:
Doctors decide the dosage to be taken depending on the disease type, but the common dose in adults is 500 mg orally three times a day for 7-14 days. This dose may be changed for different diseases or the treatment time may be prolonged.
To prevent microbial resistance and ensure the definitive treatment of the infection, take the medication as ordered by the doctor and on time.
If you miss one dose, take the medication as soon as you remember. The treatment will continue based on the pre-determined schedule. If you remember the missed dose at the time of the next one, only take the next dose based on the schedule and never double up doses.
Side effects:
Like most antibiotics, amoxicillin can cause diverse and occasionally risky gastrointestinal side effects by disrupting the microbial flora of the intestine.
Contraindications:
Those who are allergic to amoxicillin or similar antibiotics (penicillins and cephalosporins) should not take this medication. Amoxicillin belongs to pregnancy category B and should be taken if it is prescribed by a doctor. There is evidence as to its secretion in milk. Therefore, it should be prescribed and used with caution during lactation.
Analgesics and antipyretics
These diverse medications have different chemical structures and mechanisms of action. All of them alleviate pain, but some (for example, acetaminophen) also reduce fever.
