Drug class: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs)
Dosage form: Capsule
Ingredients: Each capsule contains 20 mg omeprazole.
Mechanism of action:
PPIs bind to H/K ATPase or proton pumps on gastric parietal cell surface and, by inhibiting them, reduce acid secretion in the stomach.
Indications:
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), severe erosive esophagitis, pathologically increased acid secretion, active duodenal ulcers, digestive system lesions, Helicobacter pylori infection

Dosage and administration:
Doctors decide on the dosage to be taken, but the usual dose is as follows:
Adults:
Active duodenal ulcers: 20 mg/day for 4-8 weeks
Gastric ulcers: 40 mg/ day for 4-8 weeks
Severe erosive esophagitis: 20 mg/day for 4-8 weeks
GERD: 20 mg/day for 4 weeks
Pathologically elevatedacid secretion: 60 mg once a day up to 360 mg once a day in divided doses
H. pylori infection: 20 mg every 12 hours with an antibiotic regimen
Side effects: Any medication may cause adverseeffects in addition to its desired therapeutic effects. Although not everybody shows all the side effects, consult your doctor if you observe any of them.
Omeprazole side effects include:
Headaches, confusion, stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, rash, upper respiratory infections, cough
Contraindications:
Severe allergy to omeprazole or other PPIs
This medication is not recommended in pregnancy and lactation.
