The health reporter of Pouya News agency reports: An inventor and researcher at the Functional Neurosurgery Research Center (Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences) won the silver medal at the Swiss Innovation Challenge of the International Federation of Inventors' Associations for inventing an anti-COVID intranasal mask.
Born in 1988, Dr. Meisam Akhlaghdoust, physician and researcher affiliated with the Functional Neurosurgery Research Center, has published four books on medical sciences and patented nine medical inventions. His anti-COVID intranasal mask won the silver medal at the Swiss Innovation Challenge.
This invention was also registered with the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
In an interview with Tasnim, Akhalghdoust stated, “Users should breathe through their noses when wearing this mask as it is placed inside the nose and can filter air during inhalation and exhalation; if they have COVID-19, the exhaled air is filtered and this reduces the risk of transmission.”
On the significance of this product, he added, “Masks commonly used during the pandemic cannot be worn in humid environments, at the pools, restaurants, etc. This invention was designed to overcome these problems. As this mask is used intranasally, others can see the wearers' smiles and read their lips.”
The three-day virtual Swiss Innovation Challenge was held from 18 to 21 July 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland, showcasing 650 inventions from Iran, the United States, Canada, Australia, Morocco, the United Kingdom, Poland, China, and 27 other countries, supervised by the International Federation of Inventors' Associations with 35 judges from 30 countries.
